The 1970s saw both highs and lows in Station Wagon history. Bigger, longer, faster was the trend until the energy crisis. The largest American Station Wagons had to compete with the economy cars of Europe and Japan at a time of high gas prices. This was the beginning of the end.

COMMENT		 The Vega was Chevy's answer to the compact car. From 71 - 77 Chevy offered the Vega as a 2-door wagon. Very popular as a dragster conversion.

COMMENT		 The last year a station wagons was badged Malibu was 68, but this Malibu wagon is actually a Concours with the Malibu name. A nice sporty 70s Chevelle wagon.

COMMENT		 The 70s Caprice wagons represent the largest station wagons Chevrolet ever produced. The 73 is a fine example of the American land barge.

COMMENT		 Complete kit includes station wagon body with hood molded in, interior tub with separate bench seat, dash, steering wheel, front bumper, grille, rear bumper, taillight bezels, taillights, promo wheels, T-322 tires, engine plate, chassis, glass. I have seen a very fine built version of this model. Also available as a Demolition Derby version.

COMMENT		 Who can forget the Ford Pinto. The American Honda Civic with an explosive personality. This compact wagon was a hint of things to come as the 70s winded down.

COMMENT		 MPC created a lot of Pintos in the 70s. Looks like many came from the same tool. The white molded body had open rear windows for a wagon, but included parts to convert it into a "Mini-Van".

COMMENT		 Ahh the Pacer. AMC went from the "Sensible Sensationals" to downright tiny. 1977 was the first year for the Pacer to be offered as a wagon.

COMMENT		 The concept of a Corvette Station Wagon is not new. After all the first Nomad concept car was on a Corvette body. A number of sportwagon and panel van conversion of 70s Corvettes were made by specialty shops.

COMMENT		 The Type K (Kammback) Firebird was a concept car by Pontiac. Only two were built (one gold and one silver) by Italian coachbuilder Sergio Pininfarina in late 1997 and later updated to 1979 standards. The gold one was destroyed, but the silver one may still exist. Some custom replicas were created in the early 80s. Here is a photo from GM: (pic)
