2002 Mercedes-Benz E320
With the big wagons gone mid and small wagons (mostly imports) remain in the cracks of the marketplace. The station wagon based SUV that flourished in the 1990s rolled toward a more conservative trend. With cars like Chrysler's PT Cruiser breaking the traditional car mold, the spirit of the Station Wagon will likely live on in these cross-over vehicles, while never achieving its once great glory.

COMMENT		 In 2000 the US received the newest version of the Legacy. Most notable physical change was the thicker (and somewhat unattractive) headlights. I truly hope the Legacy follows in the footsteps of the Impreza and takes up the round headlights.

COMMENT		 Chrysler's Retro-styled Swiss army knife of a car. While this car does not fit the mold of the traditional car, most have stuck it in the small Station Wagon category. This was the start of a trend in wagon history; vehicles that are not quite cars and not quite SUVs and not quite minivans.

COMMENT		 I don't know much about this car other than it is very popular in Japan. Although it is not currently available in the US it does follow the recent trend of creating compact multi-purpose wagons hitting the US streets. The Jazz has a highly efficient engine but if it were offered as a Hybrid it would sell well in the US.

COMMENT		 Finally, Dodge returns to the station wagon, and with muscle. The company who killed the wagon give it full rebirth being the first US company to release a full sized station wagon since the 1996 Buick Roadmaster. The SRT-8 features a 425hp 6.1L V8 Hemi engine.
