Band Booster Meeting
February22, 2007

The OCHS Band Boosters’ February general meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. with the Lord’s Prayer. Members present were: Mr. Hauser, Mrs. Hauser, President Toni Storm, Secretary Donna Murphy, Laura Wells, Martha Farris, Ken McCarthy, Mark Osborne, Molly Thompson and Steve Coomes.

The Secretary’s minutes were read and approved. The Treasurer’s report included balances of the following accounts: the checking account is $4905.84, the Uniform account is $1125.97 and the Interest Bearing account is $4098.64. The second Bingo payment of $3000 has been received and the final figures for the Contest came to $6900.

Mr. Hauser updated the Boosters concerning the summer band trip. The leaving date has been pushed back to May 24th. Around 41 people have signed up to go. The money for the trip is slowly coming in. We need to consider a spaghetti dinner/bunco. Martha will check with the OCHS office to see if April 14th would be available for us.

The Concert Band Festival in Madisonville will be March 20 for the OCMS Band and March 21 for the High School Band. Two chaperones are needed for each day and someone to drive the cargo van. The High School students will be wearing their uniforms, the Middle School students wear their school uniforms.

High School Winterguard competitions begin on February 24 at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. OCMS Winterguard will debut on March at Butler Traditional in Louisville. Other competitions this season will be March 17 at Ryle, March 24 at John Hardin and March 31 Championship at Ryle.

District Basketball games are required for band students. February 27 is both a boys and girls game. If they play in the Championships on March 2, attendance is also required then.

In other business, discount cards from Subway or McDonalds are possibilities, but Mr. Hauser suggested we focus on the spaghetti dinner/bunco after completing the candle/fruit fundraiser. The baby-sitting fundraiser at Owensboro Christian Church netted about $300 on January 28. We are open to continuing to meet this need for the Church

The next Newsletter deadline is March 2nd.
The next meeting date is March 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m. with a closing prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Donna Murphy,
Secretary

Band Camp Picnic: Friday, July 27, 6:00 … currently here at OCHS, still working on
getting Steele Stadium. Waiting back to hear from Coach Edge.

Camp at UK in late June.

Mr. Hauser attended the KMEA Summer Band Symposium in Bowling Green in late

Band Booster Meeting
August 16, 2007

The OCHS Band Boosters’ August general meeting was called to order at 8:04 p.m. and opened with a prayer led by Brett Ballard. Members present were: Mr. Hauser, Mrs. Hauser, President Terry Brown, Secretary Donna Murphy, Treasurer Laura Wells, Brett Ballard, Mary Lasley, Kenny McCarthy, Martha Farris, Bill Boone, Sheila Boone, Mark Osborne, Paula Aud, David Aud, Toni Storm, Mary Ruth Steele, Julie Crowe, Diane Coomes, Linda Wahl, Margaret Bennett and Kimberly Winstead.

The Secretary’s minutes was read and approved. The Treasurer reported the following balances to our accounts: Checking account - $946.57; Uniform account - $1,142.92; Interest bearing account - $4,160.35.

Mr. Hauser’s comments are below. In addition, Mr. Hauser announced that all Fundraising requests need to be submitted early this year because there are limits to the number of fundraisers within the Owensboro Catholic School System. It was decided to submit requests for Cookie Dough sales and the Spaghetti/Bunco Dinner. Also, regarding our Band Contest, there is a need for LOTS of help. Obviously all parents and students will be needed, but if families have grandparents, cousins, friends or anyone else who would be willing to work they would be welcomed. We will not have the KWC music students assisting us this year.

Measuring for uniforms has been completed among the Seniors and Juniors. Next Wed (8/22) at 6:00 the Sophomores and Freshmen will be measured. On Thur (8/23) at 5:15 all other students will be measured.

The Summer Fundraiser, selling Coke products, generated sales of 442 cases of drinks, as compared with 554 cases sold the previous year. All money is needed immediately.

Mr. Hauser was thrilled with the response to the request at the Picnic for more Bingo callers.

Under New Business, there was a request for information about scheduling details for contests and football games. Mr. Hauser explained that he sends out contest details as soon as he receives the information back from band directors concerning their contests that we attend, usually within a week of the contest. OCMS students will be receiving a packet concerning contest details so those families can become acquainted with and comfortable in knowing the expectations. Football game schedules typically require band students to be at Steele Stadium at 6:45 (except for those games when full uniform is worn, where students will dress at OCHS beforehand). Games start at 7:30 and could be concluded by 9:00, though some do go longer. Students arriving at Steele Stadium may leave from there. Help is needed to load and unload equipment at OCHS before and after games, especially when full uniforms are worn.

The next Newsletter deadline is Aug. 30th. The Newsletter is looking great!

The next meeting date is September 11, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. (N.B. – time change).

The meeting adjourned at 8:44 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Donna Murphy,
Secretary

Band Booster Meeting
September 11, 2007

The OCHS Band Boosters’ September general meeting was called to order by President Terry Brown at 6:09 p.m. and opened with a prayer led by Joe Etienne. Members present were: Mr. Hauser, Mrs. Hauser, President Terry Brown, Secretary Donna Murphy, Mary Lasley, Martha Farris, Sheila Boone, Mark Osborne, Mary Ruth Steele, Julie Crowe, Steve Coomes, Lorraine Riccio, Al Thompson, Joe Etienne and Kimberly Winstead.

The Secretary’s minutes were read and approved. Mr. Hauser summarized the treasurer’s report, indicating that although the books show we are in the red by approximately $2000, it is due to the fact that the Bingo funds have not yet been deposited and the Staff has been paid. With bills coming into the school office for the Contest, he suggested taking funds out of the Interest-bearing account to cover costs. The motion was presented to the Executive Board members present, who approved the motion.

Mr. Hauser’s comments:

1. Thanks for your help on Friday night at the game and Saturday at Mt. Vernon and North Posey. At Mt. Vernon, we placed 2nd. At Heritage we placed 1st and won Music, Percussion, Color Guard, and tied for General Effect. We need this kind of help every week.
2. Fair Share. We still need to collect $1800 from last year. Will only use the Fall fundraiser to offset Fair Share before putting on school bill this year. Can still make payments to pay off. Fair Share this year will be $291 per student.
3. Need a 4-wheeler and trailer secured for each competition. Remember that the Storms will not be able to attend State. Al Thompson indicated he would secure a light-weight 12 foot trailer, courtesy of Bob O’Bryan at O’Bryan Implement.
4. Game Friday night . . . we want to play our last song. We need to take the trailer for percussion equipment. Al can drive the trailer.
5. Saturday’s schedule was passed out at practice today.
6. Lorraine – check the Tuesday bingo situation. The office does not know we are doing this or what kind of money we are expecting. Lorraine will check with David Blandford.
7. All-District info. To be passed out later this week.
8. Contest information was distributed. The Contest begins at 9:45. Mr. Hauser went over all committee information.

Because of limitations of fundraisers throughout the Owensboro Catholic School System, we had to submit our fundraiser requests early. For this year we will plan to sell Cookie Dough/Nuts in October, and have a Spaghetti Dinner/Bunco and Chicken Cook in the spring.

Lorraine expressed appreciation for the response to the request she made at the Picnic for more Bingo callers. Training is going well.

The next Newsletter deadline is set for October 2nd.

The next meeting date is October 16th at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m. following a closing prayer led by Terry Brown.

Respectfully submitted,
Donna Murphy, Secretary

Band Booster Meeting
November 27, 2007

The OCHS Band Boosters’ November general meeting was called to order by President Terry Brown at 7:01 p.m. and opened with a prayer led by Brett Ballard. Members present were: Mr. Hauser, Mrs. Hauser, President Terry Brown, Secretary Donna Murphy, Treasurer Laura Wells, Martha Farris, Brett Ballard, John Wells and Mary Lasley.

The Secretary’s minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report, as of Oct. 31st, noted a checking account balance of $3628.11.

Mr. Hauser’s comments:
1. The Christmas Concert is on Sunday, December 16, 2:00 p.m. in the OCHS Large Gym. We had to change the previous date due to KYA in the Middle School. The concert is for grades 7-12. I suggest that we have cookies and brownies set up on the stage for after the concert.
2. The high school band will be performing their Christmas Program for the Elementary schools on Wednesday, December 12. We will perform at K-3 at 9:00 and 4-6 at 1:00. We will have fast food for lunch. We will be wearing the band uniform for the performance. Double-checking from last meeting. Mrs. Hauser remembers John Wells volunteering to drive the trailer and Al Thompson to drive the bus…is this correct? If not, we need a trailer driver and a bus driver. This tour is vital to help with publicizing our band program!!!!
3. The 6th grade band will be playing at the Riverpark on December 11 for the Elementary School Christmas Program. We need someone to help drive a school van from the Riverpark back to OCHS after the program is over.
4. Winterguard Auditions are on November 30 and December 7 from 3:30-5:30 in the OCHS Small Gym. We will then determine whether we will have one or two Winterguards. There will be an information packet given at the tryout that parents need to look over and sign. It is important that students interested and selected will be committed to showing up for rehearsals and performances. We lost a lot of money last year with Winterguard, so we will need to set up a payment schedule for fees and possibly have a Winterguard Fundraiser (Spin-a-thon?). Winterguard Camp will be December 19 and 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
5. We have a very low balance again in our budget due to bills coming in the Fall, but we are not getting $6000 of Bingo and Fair Share until Spring. We need to keep this in mind for next year when making the budget…which will be the responsibility of the current officers.
6. All-District Weekend is Jan. 10, 11, and 12 in Madisonville. We will be staying in Madisonville and will have info. for the students and parents soon once we secure chaperones. We had 17 students make All-District this year, which is the most we have had make it. Students are listed on the website.
7. WKU Honors Band Weekend is Jan. 24, 25, 26 in Bowling Green. We are waiting on the list of students selected.
8. A reminder for parents to refer to the syllabus and quarter reminders for absence procedures. It is unfair to everyone involved and for Mr. and Mrs. Hauser to hear about absent students without enough notice to adjust things. We are already starting this issue with Pep Band…we have several students absent tonight and have not received a single parent note about it. It is difficult to maintain a quality band program with poor attendance.

Uniforms are at the cleaners to get ready for the Dec 12th/16th activities.

After some discussion, the spaghetti dinner/bunco sometime in April and a chicken cook sometime in May were decided for the spring fundraisers.

The next Newsletter deadline is set for January 7th. The next meeting date is January 22, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 7:36p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Donna Murphy, Secretary
