Boonie
Riders/ IFWDA Fall Trail Ride
The
Fall Trail Ride hosted by the Boonie Rides at the French Lick spring Resort
was great. The Boonie Riders cut the
trails with some help from Monroe County 4x4 and a few Tri-State Jeepers.
They should all be pleased with the outstanding results. There was a trail ride Friday night with
about 15 vehicles with minor difficulties.
Saturday was awesome. It could
have been a little warmer and not have rained the night before, but that just
added another level of difficulty. We
hit the trails at about 9:30a.m., give or take a couple of minutes. I was with the hard group because the trail
guide was my dad (Keith Dryden). In
the end our group had 6 vehicles in all.
We started with the Stairway.
My day had to use the winch and so did everyone else except the white
jeep. Next we went to the 10
trail. While going down it an orange
Bronco got a huge rock caught on his right side steering linkage. We had to do a little creative maneuvering
to get him out. A little way’s up from
that was a steep hill. My dad tried
and had to winch up. Then the white
jeep comes up it with a little trouble but winch. Everyone else went around it. We were in the vicinity of Soup Bowl on the
10 trail when one of the vehicles had to replace a rear u joint. The trail went by an obstacle that is
called Birfield Bypass. The white jeep
made several attempts to climb it but wasn’t successful. Then we left the 10 trail to a trail that
was cut on the Saturday and Sunday a week before the event. This trail had three or four major
obstacles with a rocky ravine environment.
That mixed together made it an awesome trail. We drove down on to the pipeline to look at
a big ravine called Mt. Mother that would be a blast to go sledding down if
there was snow. I suggested this for
an activity at the convention. Then we
headed to an area were there was two big mud holes. There were three vehicles that made it
through, two that didn’t. One of those
two had mechanical difficulties and had to be strapped out. That was the end of our trail riding. That night there was a dinner, raffle and
50/50 drawing. Thanks to all that’s
helped put this together, and I can’t wait till the Convention. By: Emma Dryden
