The weather was perfect. It was the first
trip trailering my Jeep longer than an hour. The Whale and trailer worked
wonderfully, comfortably getting Melissa and I to our destination in about
the same time we were used to back when we beat ourselves to death driving
the ratmobile everywhere we went. Once at Turkey Bay, we found that we had
arrived minutes after the gatehouse had closed for the day. Oh well, that can
be taken care of Saturday morning. Just as we pulled into camp, I snagged a
tree root with the tongue jack of my trailer, and ripped it off (the jack).
At least the trailer wasn’t damaged. The next day, we hit the trails. Jimmy
said we did something in the neighbor hood of 43 miles all weekend. Rather
than try to write a long story about the trip (although I could have if I had
started on it right after we got back), I will let the pictures do the
talking. Rat |

June 25-27, 2004 LBL Trip |

|
Left– Emma Dryden
gets up close and personal with a mud hole that didn’t look that deep to her
dad. Right– Sandy Dryden
carries a tire while gassing her way through a section of Jimmy’s “twister
trail”. |
|
Left– Mutt makes
short work of “the big rut” Right—new friend
Adam Winkel doesn’t have quite the luck as Mutt. A quick correction with the
winch, and the potential rollover was averted. |
|
Left– Rich starts
up the rock pile. A neat obstacle, made even more rewarding by the fact that
it is perched at the edge of a very big hill. Right– McBill lifts
a tire on the Twister Trail. Are you starting to see a pattern to this trail
yet? |

Left—Jimmy leads us
into one of the many trails we covered over the weekend Right—Wink shows
off what his XJ can do, and why I keep calling this trail “Twister” |
