(Continued from page ) members to participate in these two decisions. So,
with that in mind, I plan to put these
items up for a vote at the September meeting. This gives everyone a month and
a half to make arrangements to be at that meeting. The
website is still there. How often do you look at it? I know that there is not
much change on the main site. This is due to the fact that there isn’t a real daily interactive aspect
to it. A lot of websites have material that is changed or updated once a day
or more. Our main site is one that requires very little direct maintenance.
This is good, since it is entirely free to us. The bulletin board area,
though, does change frequently. Lately, it has seen a massive decline in
activity. I understand that it is summer time, and no one wants to be inside
sitting in front of a computer, but take a few minutes every day or two and
check in. Heck– even if you just post something off topic in the lounge area,
just let everyone know you are still breathing. Now, I am not suggesting that
our club should become web based. Not at all. I am simply urging you to use
technology to maintain a higher quality of life. Communication is key to
this. In
closing, something has really been eating at me this year. That something is
the general complacency, or lack of enthusiasm, that has festered itself
among motorized recreationalists nationwide. This is the single biggest
threat to our sport today. It is not one that will just go away. As the anti
access groups such as Sierra Club, the Wilderness Society, and Earth First
continue to grow stronger, we just keep hanging our heads like the bunch of
beaten dogs that we are and walk away.
Are we just a bunch of mangy animals? Afraid to stand up for our
rights? To busy to bother ourselves with the other side of the wheeling
coin? The side that commands us to stand
up and be heard. I sure hope we are better than that. We must do our
part as individuals to make sure that
government officials know that we are constituents too. Not only should you
and I speak out for what we want, but we must also get every other person
involved in our sport to do the same. The Green groups are doing this. They
have been for YEARS! Del Albright
wrote a column that I will put in this newsletter to further emphasize this
point. Please read it, and understand that this cannot be ignored any longer,
as doing so is to pack up our toys and go home. (Continued on page ) |
